The staff of Tomlinson Library are dedicated to campus-wide safety. Below you will find information on how to evacuate the library in case of an emergency or power outage as well as other safety resources available to students, staff, and faculty on campus. If you have any questions about the following information, please contact the Library Administration Office at 970.248.1406.
If you have a safety concern while at the library, please contact the Checkout & Reserves Desk by visiting the 1st floor, calling 970.248.1244, or using the online "Chat with a Librarian" feature located on each page of the library's website.
The library has evacuation plans posted on each floor by the main staircase and elevators as well as by each emergency exit. These plans (provided below) show the locations of all exits, life safety systems (such as fire extinguishers), and evacuation routes. During fire evacuations, a smoke curtain in the main stairwell will deploy. Students should then use the east and west emergency exit staircases. An announcement will be made with instructions on how to safely exit the building. If necessary, and possible, the library staff may sweep the building asking library users to leave.
