The library offers course reserves for easy student access to supplementary course materials owned by CMU faculty or Tomlinson Library

CMU faculty may request placement of books, articles, or original media on reserve at the Checkout & Reserves Desk, or may request a scan of an article or a portion of a book that can be placed in your D2L course for student use.

To make already-electronic items from the Library collection, such as database articles or streaming media, available for student use, email our Reserves staff at [email protected] to request a permalink that you can place in your D2L course.

Important Guidelines for Course Reserves:

  • Reserves require some processing, especially at the beginning of the semester. Please try to give us a week to get things set up for you.
  • E-Reserve items can be placed at the library for one semester according to copyright guidelines.
  • We can accommodate many check-out periods, including 2-Hours within the library (the most popular), 1-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, and 1-Week
  • Library staff will scan a chapter or section of a book or article owned by the library or you, in compliance with copyright guidelines. We will not scan an entire book or periodical.
  • Copyright guidelines prohibit the placement of Interlibrary Loan items or items not owned by the Library or CMU faculty on course reserve.
  • Copyright guidelines prohibit the placement of copied CDs, DVDs or videos on Reserve - only originals are allowed.
  • Physical reserve materials can be searched by instructor name, course name, or course number here: http://bit.ly/mavcoursereserves. We're happy to help students find reserve items, but please ask your students to look up the call number before requesting a course reserve item at the Checkout & Reserves Desk.

To Request Reserve Materials:

Please complete the online request form below, and bring any physical items to the Checkout & Reserves desk on the first floor of the library for processing.
