Interlibrary loan is all about borrowing and lending (sharing) articles, books, and other materials for you from other libraries throughout Colorado and the rest of the US. We work with services called Prospector, MOBIUS, WorldCat, and Tipasa to provide these items to you.
Requests |
Prospector is a group of academic, public and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming. Through Prospector you have access to over 30 million books and other materials held in these libraries, subject to availability.
Prospector may be used to obtain library materials for study and research that are not available at Colorado Mesa University but that are available from other participating Prospector Libraries.
To borrow materials through Prospector:
1. Click on the Request this Item link from the search results menu.
2. Select Alliance - Colorado Mesa University and Submit Above Information.
3. Enter the #408 Library number found in the bottom right of your MAVcard, and your 700# |

MOBIUS is a lot like Prospector but it's a group within the state of Missouri, rather than primarily out of Colorado (like Prospector). It has over 70 members, which includes academic, public and special libraries.
To borrow materials through MOBIUS:
1. Click on the Request It icon from the search results menu |

Other Interlibrary Loan Requests
For items unavailable at CMU, that also can't be obtained through Prospector or MOBIUS, you can also submit a request through Tipasa. Tipasa is the name of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system used by the CMU Library. To obtain material, we must be able to identify a library that has the material and is willing to loan or copy what you have requested.
Once you have a Tipasa account, you can log on at any time to manage loans, request renewals, view the history of your loans, etc. You can also enter a request for a book, book chapter, video, or article directly from within your account.

Interlibrary Loan FAQ
Interlibrary loan is all about borrowing and lending (sharing) articles, books, and other materials for you from other libraries throughout Colorado and the rest of the US.
Here's how it works:
You can request:
- articles
- books
- music CDs
- feature film or documentary DVDs
The ILL Department works hard to fill all requests, when possible. Be aware that some material is difficult to obtain, such as dissertations, genealogy material, reference items, items held only internationally, and rare items. It is also difficulty to obtain full-text, English-language versions of articles published in foreign languages.
Please consider the following before ordering a dissertation through Tomlinson Library's Interlibrary Loan department:
- Dissertations can be very lengthy, often the size of a book (several hundred pages).
- The wait for a dissertation is generally 7 days to 1 month.
- Even though the dissertation is listed in our databases, it might not be available for loan and it may take several days to discover if the item is even available.
- The Library will cover the cost of your request. Please be respectful of our budget and order only if you are sure it is required.
For further information and questions about Interlibrary Loan policies, please email [email protected] or reach out to us by chat. |
Typical arrival time:
Articles: 1 - 3 business days.
Books or other materials: 3 - 5 business days.
Average service time:
ILL articles received: 10.8 hours
ILL articles delivered: 5.1 hours
- Physical items (like books and DVDs) are delivered to the CMU Library Checkout & Reserves desk, or our Montrose or CMU Tech campuses.
- Articles can be retrieved from your desktop, tablet, or smart device as a PDF, through the email you receive noting your request has been fulfilled or through signing into your Tipasa account.
