CMU Student Wins National Sodexo Sweepstakes, Donates to Campus Food Bank

Ryan Huff, a first-year biology student at Colorado Mesa University (CMU), is one of only 10 students nationwide to win Sodexo's Grateful Plateful Sweepstakes — an annual giveaway that promotes gratitude and giving within college communities. The Grateful Plateful Sweepstakes is one of only two sweepstakes held by Sodexo each year. His win comes with a $1,250 donation to The Pantry in his name and a $575 Visa gift card.

The Pantry, CMU’s food bank, supports student well-being by meeting students' basic needs and alleviating the stress of food insecurity. The $1,250 donation made in Huff’s name will support food security efforts for CMU students, helping to keep The Pantry’s shelves well-stocked and available to students during times of need.

“We are so appreciative of the contribution that Ryan has made,” said Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Student Services Amber Bump. “We’re seeing record numbers of usage at The Pantry this holiday season, and this donation will go straight back into buying food for our students.”

For Huff, the opportunity to make a difference is deeply meaningful.

“I’m glad I could help people on campus who need food,” said Huff.

As for his personal prize, Huff is still deciding how he’ll use the $575 Visa gift card but has already set one priority: to buy a Christmas gift for his younger brother.

“I’m finally a winner! I never thought I’d win, so I haven’t planned what I’m going to do with it,” he shared. “I’ll definitely buy my little brother a gift for Christmas.”

Students can visit The Pantry in person on the first floor of Lowell Heiny Hall or request food online and pick up their items at the IRIS information desk. Faculty, staff and community members interested in supporting The Pantry can donate food or supplies by contacting [email protected].
