Colorado Mesa University’s Practical Nursing (PN) program has achieved the top ranking nationwide — earning the top spot out of 1,127 PN programs across the United States, including beating out 12 PN programs in Colorado. This recognition comes from the latest 2024-2025 NCLEX-PN Program Report released by the National Council for State Boards of Nursing.
The ranking is based on graduate passing rates for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), a standardized test that determines if a nursing student is ready to practice. The outstanding scores from CMU's recent PN graduates reflect the dedication and hard work of the nursing program’s students and faculty.
“We always knew our PN program was amazing, but to see it reflected in the most recent reports is truly wonderful. It validates the heart and soul that our faculty put into our students and the effort our students put into becoming nurses,” said Director of Nursing Programs and Associate Professor of Nursing Erin Donovan.
CMU offers a Practical Nursing Technical Certificate at both the Grand Junction and Montrose campuses. The program provides a strong foundation for students beginning their careers as licensed practical nurses (LPNs). It equips students with essential skills for the field and provides a pathway to further education through CMU's LPN to BSN program.
“The Practical Nurse program is a fantastic way to allow students to enter the nursing workforce in 2 years. These students can provide exceptional care as LPNs upon completion of the program,” said Department of Health Sciences Head and Associate Professor of Nursing Lucy Graham. “We are so proud of our students and the dedicated faculty who are part of this program's success."
CMU’s Practical Nursing program prepares students for real-world patient care in hospitals, long-term care facilities and outpatient clinics. Visit the Practical Nursing site to learn more about the program.
