Mav Month kicks off with community-minded partnerships

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and the Clifton Water District (CWD) have taken their partnership to new heights as the CMU logo was unveiled on the Clifton exit water tower on I-70, marking the start of Mav Month. This symbolic initiative brings the east side of the Grand Valley into the month-long celebration of Maverick pride and community engagement.

The Clifton Water District has long been a pillar of the Clifton community, providing essential water services that support local residents and businesses. Their commitment to the community made them a natural partner for CMU, whose mission is to provide an opportunity for a better life through education to students on the Western Slope.

"Clifton Water’s vital role in the community, not to mention the number of Mavericks on their team, makes this partnership an obvious and exciting one. Together, we are celebrating the spirit of Mav Month and reinforcing our commitment to fostering growth and collaboration in the Grand Valley," said CMU President John Marshall.

This partnership is further strengthened by the fact that a number of Clifton Water District employees are proud CMU alumni, reflecting the deep-rooted connection between the district and the university.

“Clifton Water is proud to be a part of this fun effort to show support for CMU and our community.  We have an amazing staff and a lot of them have attended CMU.  This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for what CMU has done for our organization and look forward to working with them in the future,” said Clifton Water District Manager Ty Jones.

The CWD has been a cornerstone of the Clifton community for decades, ensuring access to clean and reliable water for over 34,000 residents and commercial units. Of CWD’s service region, 97% of those are single-family, multiple family and trailer park homes, further solidifying the importance of the population they serve. Their work extends beyond water management—they are community advocates and stewards of local resources. By aligning with CMU, they showcase their continued dedication to supporting both the people and the institutions that make the valley thrive.

The unveiling of the CMU logo on the Clifton exit water tower marks just the beginning of Mav Month celebrations, which includes CMU branded banners placed throughout the City of Grand Junction and a variety of community-focused events, alumni engagements and opportunities for the broader public to connect with CMU.
