UPDATE: Tickets for this show are sold out.
Colorado Mesa University's Asteria Theatre is looking to bring the stars to the stage and is thrilled to announce renowned astrophysicist and science communicator Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will be on campus this fall. Tyson will be helping anchor not only the theatre name but will also be the inaugural event in the CMU Reaching for the Stars Series.
Tyson will speak on November 11, 2024, at the newly established Asteria Theatre.
Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium and celebrated author of bestsellers such as Astrophysics for People in a Hurry and Starry Messenger, has become one of the world’s most recognized voices in science. His ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging has inspired millions across the globe.
As the first speaker in the Reaching for the Stars Series, Tyson will set the stage for bringing programming from various fields to engage with the themes of exploration, wonder, awe and the cosmos.
The Asteria Theatre, which draws its inspiration from humanity’s age-old connection to the stars, will serve as the perfect venue for this event. The theatre's design and purpose align with the universal awe of the night sky making Asteria a fitting venue for a series dedicated to exploring the vastness of human potential and the mysteries of the universe.
"We are honored to welcome Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson to the Asteria Theatre," said CMU President John Marshall. "Asteria is Greek for ‘the stars’ and no one in the world knows more about the night sky than Dr. Tyson. His work has profoundly impacted humanity’s understanding of the universe, and his presence will help anchor the Asteria Theatre as a place where science, culture, and the arts converge."
Tickets for the event will be available on Friday, September 13, and interested parties are encouraged to secure their seats early.
