The 5k was a Maverick success story
The fourth annual Gobble Wobble 5k looked a little different this year but that didn’t stop Mavericks from participating. It has been a whirlwind of a year for many, which is why the Colorado Mesa University Hamilton Recreation Center’s Gobble Wobble 5k was more important than ever.
“Not only is getting outside and moving the body important for a healthy campus, but doing it with a friend, a colleague or your department makes it that much better,” said Hamilton Recreation Center Manager of Wellness and Fitness Programs Emily Thom.
Each year the Gobble Wobble promotes healthy living and helps build campus culture. It also is a way to unite the CMU community by providing aid to students in need. Organizers ask participants donate food items to CMU’s food pantry, which was created to alleviate the stress of food insecurity on campus and to ensure that the basics needs of all Mavericks are met.
“This was our most successful Gobble Wobble in terms of the amount of food that was donated. We’re really proud of our campus community and are thankful for their support during these unusual times,” said Thom.
Together, the CMU community gave 550 canned/packed goods and $230 to The Pantry. Residence Life and Student Life teamed up to donate the most food which totaled almost 400 items.
