Requesting Interpretation Services
Educational Access Services currently contracts ASL interpretation services from the Center for Independence. If you are a student that needs to utilize an interpreter please follow the steps outlined in the first box below by requesting services through your AIM Portal. If you are not currently a student but are attending a meeting with a CMU advisor, admissions, residence life or other campus department, please follow the instructions of the second box below to request interpretation services.
Please provide at least a week's notice when requesting interpretation requests.

Step 1: Student is approved for ASL Interpretation accommodation during Access Meeting.
Step 2: Student is able to request interpretation services outside of the classroom - advising appointment, on-campus meeting, campus sponsored event. Student should go to AIM Portal and navigate to left hand menu. Under My Accommodations, select Communication Access. You will then be prompted to create a Custom Request found on the top right tab as seen below.
Once you open the Custom Request field your screen will appear like the one below, you will select the right-hand option to create a no-class related event request.
Follow the instructions on the following screens to request an ASL Interpreter for a school function by including the necessary information.
Step 3: You will be informed when an interpreter is scheduled or if other arrangements need to be made.
If you are a potential student, CMU department, or community member that requires interpretation services for a CMU sponsored event or meeting, please use the following link to request services. Interpretation Service Request
Step 1: Click on the Interpretation Service Request button link above. It will ask you for your email address to start the process. Click Submit Custom Request or Requests Status after submitting a request that you haven't heard back on.
Step 2: The next page will ask you to complete Sponsor Information - this is YOUR Contact Information. For department, please list the department you will be meeting with or the department you are from. Disregard the Index Number for Bill Back. Click Register Account.
Step 3: The next page will ask you for the event information that you need interpretation services for. Please provide any names of the people you are meeting with so your interpretation needs can be addressed promptly. Click Submit Custom Request.
Step 4: You will be informed when an interpreter is scheduled or if other arrangements need to be made.
