The Parent PLUS loan application is available on the Federal Student Aid website and is available for parents using the loan to help their dependent student cover college expenses. Biological parents or parents/step-parents listed on the FAFSA and wishing to apply for a Parent PLUS loan will follow these steps: 

Step 1

Submit FAFSA

Be sure to submit your FAFSA for the current aid year.
Step 2

Accept the Parent PLUS Loan

Within MAVzone, go to your Financial Aid Offers tab under My Account > Student Finance to review and accept your award offer. Be sure you've accepted the Parent PLUS Loan.

Step 3

Parent submits a PLUS loan application

  1. Go to studentaid.gov

    Within the Loans and Grants section of the website you'll find information on PLUS loans.

  2. View Demo (Optional)

    If desired, preview the application using the "View Demo" option so you can see what to expect within the application.

  3. Parents: Log in with your FSA ID

    Your FSA ID will be the parent's username and login to the FAFSA application.

  4. Fill out and submit the application

    Complete the application and submit to send your PLUS loan application. Parents will receive the results of their credit check immediately letting then know if their application is approved.

Step 4

Master Promissory Note (MPN)

If the application is approved, the parent then needs to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN), also called the Loan agreement. After the MPN has been received, the loan will apply to the student account after it has been processed.
