A weeklong series: April 7–11
Colorado Mesa University will open its twenty-second annual Holocaust Awareness Series with a powerful and symbolic installation of the Field of Flags on Sunday, April 6 at 1pm, which will stand on the field south of The Plaza from April 7–11. The weeklong series is an interdisciplinary forum of events focused on the study and remembrance of genocide and the importance of human dignity, respect, and resilience.
The Field of Flags will be formally dedicated on Monday, April 7 at 10:50am with a moment of silence led by the CMU Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences. The field serves as a visual tribute to the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust and other genocides throughout modern history.
One of the most anticipated events of the week takes place on Tuesday, April 8 at 6pm at CMU’s Asteria Theatre, where the keynote presentation, Life That Matters, will feature Holocaust survivor Ben Lesser, his daughter, and the filmmakers who have worked to preserve his story.
The 2025 series also include presentations by CMU and guest faculty on topics ranging from totalitarianism to Korean comfort women. All events are free and open to the public.
