CMU Women's Soccer visits D51's Nisley Elementary

This spring, CMU Women's Soccer team visited District 51’s Nisley Elementary School, creating an inspiring and memorable experience for the students. The event was particularly special because one of the players, Kylie Wells, is a proud graduate of Nisley.

“I was once a Grizzly and now I’m a Maverick and my experience has been amazing and so full of growth. It has been so awesome to be a homegrown kid going to the college here, it’s been a dream of mine so it’s super cool to be back,” said Wells.

The students were thrilled to meet Wells, who played a pivotal role in helping the Mavericks secure the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship by scoring the winning goal. To commemorate the occasion and foster a sense of connection and pride, the Mavericks gifted the school their 2023 RMAC Championship ball.

During their visit, the Mavericks emphasized the importance of one of CMU's core values, Resiliency. This theme resonated throughout the day's activities, aiming to instill a sense of determination, perseverance and belonging in the young students.

“College was definitely something I didn’t think about a lot when I was a kid, and it seems very far away from where they are right now, but I think it’s so cool to be able to show kids that it is possible and if this is something you want then you can go get it,” added Wells.

The event at Nisley Elementary is part of the broader "Where We Become Mavericks" initiative, which will continue into Fall 2024. This initiative seeks to strengthen ties between CMU and the community by having student-athletes from various programs visit D51 schools across the valley, inspiring the next generation that they too, have an opportunity for a better life through education.
