CMU co-hosts Healthcare Career Day, one of many interactive programs that teaches prospective students more about the paths available to them after high school.

On March 13, 60 students from D51 high schools visited Colorado Mesa University and Community Hospital for an interactive exploration of healthcare careers. Healthcare Career Day started at Community Hospital, where students visited nine different activity and lecture stations. These demonstrations underlined the roles and responsibilities of various health science fields, including trauma surgery, radiology, nursing, EMT and more. The scenario-focused presentations were collaborative and provoked strong discussion between students and Community Hospital healthcare workers.

The second half of the day was hosted by Colorado Mesa University at the Health Sciences Building. Combining presentations about different careers with practical advice on how to pursue them highlights CMU's dedication to helping prospective students get excited about their next steps. When hosting local high schoolers for events like these, a major emphasis is on demonstrating the diverse pathways available for students to achieve their goals. Whether future graduates are interested in pursuing a four-year degree or are ready to put their nose to the grindstone in the workforce, there are options for everyone.

Students participating in Healthcare Career Day were given the opportunity to learn more about these different paths within the Health Sciences program. They also learned about the numerous certificate programs offered through CMU Tech, which provide access to the workforce either during high school, upon graduation or within one to two years of study. These certificates lead to high paying jobs and impressive field experience, while leaving the door open to pursue further education later down the road.

Healthcare Career Day is just one example of how CMU, Community Hospital and D51 are working together to support students after high school. D51 students have visited campus to get a firsthand look at the business, psychology and criminology program. On April 8, the mass communication department will host students for Media Day. The itinerary will focus on delving into photography, interviewing techniques, social media management and design.
