Coca-Cola Presents $10,000 Check to Colorado Mesa University Mavericks at Annual Blizzard in Brownson Game
On January 26, Colorado Mesa University's Brownson Arena once again transformed into a snowy spectacle as CMU hosted its annual Blizzard in Brownson basketball game against Fort Lewis College. Sponsored by Coca-Cola, the event not only showcased the thrilling basketball action but also underscored CMU's commitment to sustainability and student-athlete support.
Representatives from CMU’s Sustainability Council were on hand distributing Blizzard in Brownson handtowels, reusable Coca-Cola bags and cans of ice cold Coca-Cola Zero. Attendees who recycled their Coke cans in the Reverse Recycle Vending Machine, located in Brownson Arena lobby, were entered in a drawing for the chance to win a Coca-Cola branded cooler, lawn chair and matching corn hole set.
Adding to the excitement was everyone's mascots, Rowdy the Maverick and the iconic Coca-Cola Polar Bear, who cheered fervently for both the women’s and men’s teams throughout the evening.
During the men's halftime, representatives from Swire Coca-Cola presented a $10,000 check to the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks, reaffirming their commitment to supporting CMU student-athletes through scholarship funding. The check was received by CMU student-athletes, athletics representatives and leadership figures, marking a significant contribution towards empowering student-athletes to achieve their academic and athletic aspirations.
Despite a valiant effort from the men's basketball team, they fell short against FLC with a final score of 79-87. However, the women's basketball team emerged victorious with a resounding 87-71 win over FLC, further igniting the spirits of CMU supporters and underscoring the university's prowess on the court.
CMU's annual Blizzard in Brownson game not only provides an exhilarating basketball experience but also served as a platform to celebrate CMU's dedication to sustainability and its unwavering support for student-athletes.
