CMU Montrose Lecture Series Welcomes Back Dr. Gayle Frazzetta

Her latest talk will help individuals navigate the myths and medical facts of menopause

The Montrose Campus Lecture Series is thrilled to welcome Dr. Gayle Frazetta back for her latest talk Understanding Your Body: Menopause, Myths, and Medicine. This event will delve into crucial aspects of women's health, continuing the dialogue about hormone therapy and the challenges women face in their reproductive journey from her previous lectures.

Women typically experience a significant transformation in their health and well-being as they go through menopause. While they are at a lower risk of chronic diseases than men before menopause, this risk profile changes as they enter this life stage.

Over 70 percent of women experience an array of symptoms during menopause, including hot flashes, insomnia, and incontinence. Additionally, the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, dementia, and other chronic illnesses increases. For years, hormone replacement therapy was the primary method of addressing these issues, but this approach came into question in 2002 when a study linked it to an increased risk of breast cancer. However, the study's findings were later misinterpreted, leading to a long-standing cloud of uncertainty around menopause treatment.

Recent insights have provided a more nuanced and encouraging view of hormone therapy. According to a New York Times article published in February, titled Women Have Been Misled about Menopause, the understanding of hormone therapy's impact has evolved significantly.

Frazzetta, a board-certified Family Medicine specialist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, brings a wealth of knowledge in hormone therapy, nutrition, athletics, bone density, and osteoporosis management. Her commitment to women's health extends beyond her medical practice, as she actively educates medical students and Advanced Practice Professionals. Frazzetta's advocacy for hormone therapy as an integral part of addressing women's health needs is rooted in her mission to promote overall well-being.

Join us for this presentation as Frazzetta explores the nuanced facets of menopause, dispelling myths, and empowering women to make informed choices about their health, alleviate menopausal symptoms and protect against chronic diseases. Attendees can expect a comprehensive exploration of this essential topic and gain valuable insights to guide them on their health journeys.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., join us at Cascade Hall located on S. 3rd & Cascade Ave., Montrose, Colorado for this edition of the Montrose Lecture Series. This is a free event and is open to the public.
