CMU Theatre will open its Spring 2022 season with the Jones Cabaret Series featuring "Boat Songs: a Cabaret by Bonnie Montgomery." "Boat Songs" is a one-woman-stage-show version of Montgomery's 2020 album "Boat Songs 2002," about a freight boat journey across the Pacific Ocean in 2002 that echoes into the writer's suspension of time in 2020 during the pandemic. The piece will include spoken word, country/parlor songs, as well as the piano vignettes and guitar accompaniment that were featured on the album. Montgomery will be on the CMU campus during the month of January to devise the original work under the direction of music theatre director Jeremy Franklin.
"Boat Songs" will be presented at 7:30pm on January 28 and 29 in the Moss Performing Arts Center Mesa Experimental Theatre. Tickets are available at www.coloradomesa.edu/tickets .
