Colorado Mesa University’s Department of Theatre Arts is in rehearsals for the spring production, “The SpongeBob Musical,” under the direction of department head Mo LaMée.

While the musical is based on the beloved animated series, the musical is definitely not just for kids. With fun musical numbers and dancing, along with a message that will resonate with all ages and a guest appearance by audience favorite and musical director Jeremy Franklin, “The SpongeBob Musical” is recommended for families and seasoned theatre-goers alike.

As SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world, chaos erupts and the power of optimism struggles to prevail. The show features original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley.

“The SpongeBob Musical” will run from March 3-12 in the Moss Performing Arts Center Robinson Theatre. Tickets are available at coloradomesa.edu/tickets.
