Remarkable accomplishments are happening every day on the Colorado Mesa University and Western Colorado Community College campuses— from faculty instruction and research to student projects and community involvement. CMUnow is a monthly segment of the KAFM Community Affairs hour where we interview faculty, athletic coaches and students to keep you up to date on all things CMU and WCCC.
The first segment of this half hour show features Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Michelle Mellentin, PhD, and engineering student Evan Lavin. They talk about the work they are doing with Engineers Without Borders USA including a project on campus, a project in Wyoming and a potential project in Ecuador, and how these projects are really making a difference in the lives of people.
The second segment features Montrose Campus Lecturer John Garner, PhD. Garner was a police officer and investigator for almost 30 years in Illinois and became a liaison between the police and people with disabilities. Garner recounts his own disability and how that shaped the calling he is answering and why the work he is doing is even more important in today's world.
