Student art enriches local film culture through shorts
CMU's Western Colorado Community College campus announced the 2019 Student Film Festival featuring community focused films. The festival will showcase student short form filmmaking. The event is open to the community and will occur on Saturday, May 11 beginning at 6pm.
The festival includes student films that run five to ten minutes in length and feature community actors as well as musical scores recorded by CMU student musicians. Themes range from humor to horror with seven student film screenings.
WCCC student Joel Cochran’s film adds seriousness to the lineup through subject matter that examines the fundamentals of human creativity.
“It was a wonderful experience working with both my actors and my crew. My film, Average Joe, focuses in on how anxiety fuels creativity,” said Cochran.
WCCC Digital Filmmaking Program Lead Dan McClintock is assisting the students in organizing the festival.
“I am continually amazed at the remarkable talents of our students and am pleased to have been a part of their projects and an observer of their passions for the art of filmmaking,” said McClintock.
