Biography

Professor Gildea earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from King's College. Later, he earned his Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University. Gildea is currently a doctoral candidate in Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska Omaha. 

Gildea teaches introduction to criminal justice, courts, corrections, contemporary issues in criminal justice and media & crime. He believes in empowering students to be inquisitive about the world around them, especially in relation to crime. Blending practical, real-world experience with theoretical and evidence-based research to provide a well-rounded learning experience for students. Utilizing in-class and online discussions, historical and contemporary examples, and thought-provoking topics, Gildea challenges students to use critical-thinking and communication skills to navigate sensitive topics in a respectful and productive environment.

Professor Gildea has prior practical experience in several social science disciplines for three separate state governments. He worked several years as a probation officer in a domestic violence court. Additionally, he has prior experience working within family courts, public and behavioral health. Outside of the classroom, Gildea is deeply passionate about sports, likes spending time with family and friends, and enjoys traveling throughout the U.S. and internationally.
