John Garner is passionate about teaching and student success. In addition to teaching courses in History and Criminal Justice, he brings real-world experience to the classroom. He played a role in passing police reform legislation in Colorado, known as the Elijah McClain Bill, and has served as an instructor for the Department of Homeland Security, specializing in Deaf/Law Enforcement relations.

Garner studied under the Lincoln Chair at the University of Illinois and is a regular instructor at the Illinois State Police Academy. When he’s not in the classroom, he pursues his interests in cars, hacking guitars, mountain biking and skiing. Garner is married with three children, including one who is adopted.
