CMU Department of Music presents Faculty Piano Trio
Thursday, April 6, 2017 10:00 AM
On Thursday, April 27, at 7:30pm, the CMU Department of Music will present the Faculty Piano Trio in the Moss Performing Arts Center Love Recital Hall. The trio is comprised of Arthur Houle, piano; Kristen Yeon-Ji Yun, cello; and Frank Restesan, violin.
The theme for the evening is "Four Centuries, Four Styles, Two Genders" of piano and string music — one piece each from the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries in highly varied styles ranging from Classic, Romantic, Asian and mellow jazz.
The program is also gender balanced — two works by male composers (W.A. Mozart and Arthur Houle) and two by female composers (Chen Yi and Clara Schumann). Houle's original work, Under the Stars was recently published and is a highly lyrical and sentimental "tone poem" suggestive of long wistful nights sleeping under the stars. Originally written for piano solo, this version also features violin, which enhances and dialogs with the pianist's melodies.
The concert is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
